INDONESIAN ARMY READY TO PROVIDE HELICOPTER TO DISTRIBUTE ELECTION SUPPLIES IN PAPUA

Jayapura, 6/4 (Jubi) – The Indonesian military is ready to provide helicopters to deliver election supplies for Wednesday’s legislative elections in Papua, said Army Chief of Staff  General Budiman said via teleconference on Sunday.
Election organizers are experiencing difficulties distributing ballot boxes and other supplies in several areas because of difficult terrain and lack of transportation.
“To Commander of Military Region Cenderawasih XVII, we have delivered a helicopter by Hercules plane around 5 in the morning. This is to support the helicopter demand in Papua region,” General Budiman said.
He further said currently the Indonesian Military Headquarters had some helicopters ready to be delivered to some remote areas if required.
“The limited budget to cover the operation cost or other expenditure could be solved by using the emergency funds for the military commander. It could be applied for units of Battalion, Military District Command and Military Region Command as well. Please use it, the administrative matter for the next reimbursement would be settled later,” he said.
He further said besides using the helicopters belonging to the military, the election logistics could be distributed by using helicopters belonging to some businessmen.
Meanwhile, the chairman of General Election Commission, Husni Kamil Manik, also election supplies should be delivered by Tuesday in Papua and West Papua.
“Besides of security issue, it is important to consider the accurate time of logistics distribution on 8 April because in according to the election law, the logistics should arrive in polling stations before the polling day,” Malik said in the teleconference on Monday (6/4).
